It also studies how changes in the atmosphere and ocean can affect different regions and how climate change can cause long-term effects on the environment, including sea levels and weather patterns. The five best examples of what atmospheric and oceanic science study are the following: 1. El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO): ENSO is the phenomenon of alternating warmer and cooler temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, affecting the climate of the entire planet. Understanding ENSO is important in predicting changes in global climate. 2. Hurricanes: Hurricanes are intense tropical storms that can cause destruction in coastal communities. Studying the factors that lead to the formation and evolution of hurricanes is essential in order to improve prediction of future extreme weather events. 3. Air pollution: Air pollution is an important factor to consider when understanding the effect of human activities on Earth’s atmosphere, ocean and climate. Atmospheric and oceanic science investigates ways to better monitor and reduce air pollution, as well as how air pollution can affect ocean chemistry and biological processes. 4. Marine biogeochemistry: Marine biogeochemistry is the study of how the ocean's chemistry interacts with living organisms, organic and inorganic processes, and other elements. This is important in understanding how the ocean influences climate and influences food webs. 5. Sea level rise: Studying sea level rise is essential in understanding how climate change will affect the planet in the long-term. Studying the factors that could lead to a rise in sea level can help predict what areas of the planet will be most affected and help to create strategies to respond to this change. Atmospheric and oceanic science is a broad and multifaceted field of study, with topics ranging from the physics of the atmosphere and ocean, to the effects of human activities on the climate, to the impact of climate change on the environment. Through this field of science, researchers are better able to understand the atmosphere and ocean and the ways in which they interact and can be affected by human activities and natural systems.
