The Largest Impacts of the Bretton Woods Conference on the Economic Globalization, Transnational Corporations and the International Economic Institutions
Bretton Woods is the name given to a series of financial and trade agreements that were signed at a conference of 44 Allied countries hosted by the United States at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire in 1944 The agreements established the framework for international economic cooperation and intended to rebuild the shattered economies of Europe following World War II.
The Bretton Woods Agreement had three main objectives. These objectives were to create an organization to promote and regulate international trade, create the international monetary system, and establish financial rules for other countries to follow. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) was created to provide temporary loans to countries experiencing financial difficulties and to encourage countries to observe the Bretton Woods system. The IMF also serves as a forum for cooperation among the world's economic powers. Meanwhile, the World Bank, another organization created out of the Bretton Woods agreements, provides long-term loans to developing countries to fund infrastructure projects.
The Bretton Woods system served as the basis for global economic stability for almost three decades by providing a set of rules for international economic relations. Even though the Bretton Woods system eventually collapsed in the 1970s, it still has an important place in modern economics and is a major part of the International Monetary System of the 21st century.
