What is Allah? Allah is the name of the one and only true God in the faith of Islam In the Arabic language, it translates to “The God” or “The Divinity” and is a unisex name, applicable to both men and women. It is derived from the Arabic word “al-ilah” which means “the deity.” Allah is the same God that is believed and worshipped by Jews, Christians and Muslims alike, although Muslims refer to him as Allah and not “God.” To Muslims, Allah is the supreme being and holds ultimate power over every living and non-living thing in the universe. He is the one and only God who has no equal or partner, and no other can be compared to him. Allah created the universe and all that it contains, including humans. Everything that happens in the universe is under his ultimate control. He is all-knowing, compassionate and merciful, omniscient and omnipotent. Allah is the source of all truth and the ultimate source of guidance in the lives of Muslims. He has created a perfect system of laws and instructions, known as the Qur’an, from which Muslims learn how to live their lives in a manner pleasing to God and in a way that allows them to reach spiritual fulfillment.
