The Cell Cycle
The cell cycle is an integral process for the growth, development and maintenance of living organisms It is the process by which cells replicate and divide in order to produce new cells, thereby allowing the organism to grow, repair and reproduce. A cell cycle consists of two distinct phases: the interphase and the mitosis. During the interphase, the cell carries out its cellular activities as normal, as well as replicating its genetic material (DNA) and preparing for the next phase. In the mitosis phase, the genetic material is divided, resulting in two new daughter cells.
