Communities should also encourage the development of grocery stores that carry healthier foods and host regular farmers markets. Fourth, making healthy foods more affordable is essential. Government programs should provide financial assistance for low-income families to help them purchase healthier foods. Schools can also provide reduced-cost and free meals for children who qualify so that all children have access to nutritious meals. Finally, creating healthier food environments in all public places is important. Restaurants, recreation centers, and other public places should offer healthy food and drink options. This can help control what children consume and make healthier options more accessible. These five strategies are essential in helping to prevent childhood obesity. By educating children and their parents, getting parents more involved in their children’s lives, providing healthier food options, making healthy foods more affordable, and creating healthier food environments, we can help protect children from the dangers of obesity.
