What is Devasmita? Devasmita, sometimes known as DevSmita, is an ancient Hindu philosophical system that focuses on the concept of prakriti and purusha, or nature and soul Devasmita is a spiritual and cognitive-philosphical approach that originated in India and is closely associated with the Vedic tradition. The term “Devasmita” comes from the Sanskrit words Devalok, which means “divine dwelling,” and smita, which is derived from the root word smita, meaning “to think” or “contemplation.” The basic tenets of Devasmita can be seen in the works of the ancient sages and seers, and its principles are also found in Hinduism and Jainism. According to Devasmita, the material world is composed of two distinct entities: purusha, the non-material and transcendent self, and prakriti, the material and changing world. Devasmita proclaims that the self (purusha) is a distinct entity and that it is the source of all creation, while prakriti is the material manifestation of the self and its ever-changing nature. The goal of Devasmita is for the individual to recognize his or her own purusha, or spirit, and to live in harmony with the material world, instead of trying to control it. To reach this spiritual state, practitioners must seek to cultivate the four types of knowledge: logical reasoning, perception, cognition and insight. Devasmita teaches that the ultimate truth of life lies beyond the senses, and that it can be revealed through inner introspection. Five Interesting Devasmita Essay Topics 1.
