What is Filipino American? Filipino American is a term used to describe individuals of Filipino descent who were born or reside in the United States This term is an umbrella term that encompasses all generations of Filipino Americans and their varying backgrounds, cultural practices, and experiences. Filipino Americans represent a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnic backgrounds, and religions, and are considered one of the most diverse ethnic groups within the United States. Filipino Americans comprise the second-largest group of Asian Americans in the United States and the second-largest population of Asian Americans in California. Filipino Americans are a highly educated population, with a higher percentage of college graduates than other Asian American ethnic groups.
