What is Frank Wild?
Frank Wild was a British explorer who accompanied Ernest Shackleton during his Antarctic expeditions He was born in 1873 in London, England and passed away in 1939 at the age of 65 Wild was an experienced seaman who was on five Antarctic expeditions during his lifetime, including the well-known Endurance expedition with Shackleton. On these expeditions, Wild was an invaluable member of the team as he was able to bring a diverse range of skills and experience to the table, from navigation to boat handling.
Wild was passionate about exploration and was the leader of the World War I Shackleton-Rowett expedition to the Antarctic. On this trip, Wild together with Shackleton and two other members of the team, were able to complete the journey from South Georgia to the Antarctic, reaching the farthest south ever recorded at that time.
