Hu Jintao is the former president of the People’s Republic of China and served between 2003 and 2013 During his time in office, Hu was responsible for managing the world’s most populous country and second-largest economy. He also oversaw tremendous political and economic change, encouraging reforms that favored growth and modernization. His commitment to providing citizens with greater prospects and opportunities had a tremendous impact on China and the world. The first of Hu Jintao’s accomplishments was the dramatic increase in economic output. Under his leadership, China’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by almost 10 percent each year, far outperforming any other major economy. This created jobs and increased household incomes, making it easier for people to access higher levels of education, healthcare, and other necessities. Hu’s economic reforms also led to the growth of China’s already large manufacturing sector, as well as other industries, such as finance and technology. The second achievement of Hu Jintao was his focus on environmental protection and conservation. He implemented policies that aimed to reduce air and water pollution, conserve energy resources, and protect ecosystems. He was also a strong proponent of transitioning China to a renewable energy-based economy. Hu worked to increase the amount of renewable energy used in China, while also encouraging the development of green technologies and renewable energy sources. The third accomplishment of Hu Jintao was his focus on improving the lives of China’s citizens. He implemented several highly successful social welfare policies, such as providing access to affordable and quality healthcare, education, and housing. Hu also worked to provide greater access to the internet and reduce the digital divide among China’s citizens. In addition, his efforts to eliminate poverty and provide improved living standards allowed millions of people to benefit from better quality of life. The fourth achievement of Hu Jintao was his successful diplomatic efforts. By increasing China’s presence in the international arena, Hu was able to improve China’s relations with other countries. During his tenure, Hu led China into the World Trade Organization (WTO) and improved economic ties with the U.S. and other countries. He also successfully mediated diplomatic disputes between nations and promoted international collaboration in areas such as disarmament and non-proliferation. The fifth accomplishment of Hu Jintao was his commitment to human rights. During his tenure, Hu attempted to address the social inequality that plagued the country. He improved access to legal representation, strengthened freedom of speech, and cracked down on government corruption. He also improved the conditions of those living in Chinese prisons and sought to ensure that human rights were respected. These five examples show how Hu Jintao successfully managed China’s economy, environment, social welfare, diplomacy, and human rights. His efforts had a lasting impact on the country and the world, and he will be remembered for his successful initiatives and accomplishments.
