LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) studies is an interdisciplinary field that studies gender and sexuality from both historical and modern contexts It focuses on the experiences and identities of people who identify as non-normative (i.e. not heterosexual and/or cisgender) and their struggles for representation in culture and society. LGBT studies is related to other diverse topics such as gender studies, queer theory, and feminist studies.
