The Chicago Cubs are a professional Major League Baseball team based in Chicago, Illinois Founded in 1876, the Cubs are the second-oldest Major League team behind the Boston Red Sox. The Cubs have won two World Series titles in 1907 and 1908. They have also won seven National League pennants, the most in the National League, and one Wild Card berth. The Cubs are known for playing in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field, one of the oldest and most iconic ballparks in all of baseball.
1) The Curse of the Billy Goat: The Curse of the Billy Goat is one of the most famous curses in all of sports. The curse was put on the Cubs by Billy Sianis, the owner of the Billy Goat Tavern, after he was not allowed to bring his pet goat, Murphy, into Wrigley Field during the 1945 World Series.
2) Ernie Banks and the 500 Home Run Club: Ernie Banks was a Hall of Fame first baseman for the Chicago Cubs from 1953 to 1971. He is the first member of the 500 Home Run Club to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. His career numbers with the Cubs are remarkable, as he hit 512 home runs, drove in 1,636 runs, and he also won two MVP awards.
3) The Cubs' 2016 World Series Championship: The 2016 Chicago Cubs made history by winning their first World Series Championship since 1908. The Cubs defeated the Cleveland Indians in a thrilling seven-game set and ended their 108-year championship drought.
4) Wrigley Field: Wrigley Field is one of the most iconic and historic ballparks in all of baseball. The park has been home to the Chicago Cubs since 1916, and it is also home to the Cubs' beloved Bleacher Bums. Wrigley Field is also known for its ivy-covered walls and its hand-operated scoreboard.
5) The Cubs-Cardinals Rivalry: The rivalry between the Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals is one of the oldest and greatest rivalries in all of sports. The rivalry dates back to the late 1800s, but it began in earnest in the 1970s, when the two teams battled for National League Central titles on an almost yearly basis.
