What is a Compare and Contrast Essay? A compare and contrast essay is a type of essay which analyses two different subjects, their similarities and differences It is a type of argumentative essay which puts across the writer's point of view about a certain subject. The main purpose of such an essay is to provide the reader with a comprehensive understanding of the two topics being compared and contrasted. A compare and contrast essay is usually written in a linear format; one paragraph follows another and the writer has to carefully choose the right words to link the two topics. The essay should include an introduction and a conclusion as well as an introduction which sets out the parameters of the comparison and outlines the themes which will be discussed in the essay. The body of the essay should focus on discussing the similarities and differences between the two studies. The best compare and contrast essay topics include: 1.
