Emiratisation, also known as Emirati-ization or Localization and sometimes referred to as UAE-ization, is a governmental policy that seeks to increase the role of native Emirati citizens in the economy, private sector and other areas of Emirati life It is part of the UAE’s strategy to diversify its economy and reduce its dependence on oil. The policy is focused on encouraging Emirati citizens to be entrepreneurs, advancing themselves into higher positions of responsibility and leadership, and opening up opportunities for Emiratis in the private sector. This strategy of Emiratisation has grown significantly over the last decade as a result of increased government support and incentive programs. There are many different programs and initiatives that fall under the Emiratisation umbrella, including job skills training, mentoring, and job placement programs. In addition, Emiratisation also encourages Emiratis to pursue higher education, and to support and promote the adoption of Emirati culture and values in all aspects of life. In order for the Emiratisation policy to be successful, there must be a strong commitment by the government, private sector, and the Emirati people.
