What are Evangelicals?
Evangelicals are a subset of Protestant Christianity that are generally characterized by a belief in the Bible as the authoritative source for their faith and doctrine, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and an emphasis on a personal conversion experience While there is no single statement of faith that all Evangelicals subscribe to, some of the common beliefs of Evangelicals include the infallibility of Scripture, the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the need to share their faith with others through evangelism.
Evangelicals span a broad range of denominations and backgrounds, but they form a distinct movement that has made a significant impact on politics and American culture in general. Politically, Evangelicals have been instrumental in forming a conservative voting bloc in the U.S., with many Evangelicals advocating for the protection of the unborn, religious freedom laws, and traditional values. Additionally, Evangelicals have had a profound effect on the way that the American public views Christianity. They have helped to spread the Gospel in both local and global communities, as well as have worked to bring attention to important issues such as poverty, human trafficking, and natural disasters.
