This means that the galaxies are moving away from each other, and that the universe is gradually growing larger. This concept has been extensively studied and verified, and provides us with a better understanding of the history and fate of the universe. The fifth example of general relativity is the existence of black holes. A black hole is a region of spacetime which is so dense and massive that nothing, not even light, can escape from it.
