What Are Genes?
Genes are the fundamental units of heredity in all living organisms A gene is a hereditary unit that is composed of a sequence of nucleotides on a strand of DNA. Genes have been referred to as the fundamental building blocks of life, as they are the molecular instruction codes that determine the structure and function of an organism.
Each gene acts as the blueprint for an organism’s physical characteristics, personality traits, and behavioral tendencies. The sequence of genetic material within a gene is known as the gene’s code and can vary significantly from one organism to another. For example, the code for a gene that codes for eye color may be different between a person with blue eyes and a person with brown eyes.
