Herpes is a viral disease caused by a highly contagious virus of the herpes family, with two main types Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1) is the most common form and typically causes oral herpes and cold sores while Herpes Simplex Virus type 2 (HSV-2) is most commonly linked to genital herpes, however it can also cause oral herpes. HSV-1 and HSV-2 are very similar, however HSV-2 is more likely to cause recurrent episodes of genital herpes. Herpes can spread through skin-to-skin contact, such as kissing, touching, and sexual intercourse, as well as through contact with infected bodily fluids, including saliva, vaginal secretions, and semen. Though it is not curable, there are several treatments that can reduce the severity and symptoms of herpes episodes. These treatments can include antivirals, which help to reduce the replication of the virus, and topical treatments to reduce the discomfort of lesions. The five best examples of essay questions on the subject of herpes are: 1. What is the difference between HSV-1 and HSV-2, and why is one more commonly linked to genital herpes? 2. What role do social stigmas play in the transmission and treatment of herpes? 5. How could research and development into new treatments lead to better management of herpes?
