Hitler Improves Lives of Germans Adolf Hitler was an Austrian-born German politician and leader of the Nazi Party He rose to power as the Chancellor of Germany in 1933 and assumed full control of the government in 1934 through the Nazi Party. Despite his many atrocities and war crimes, there is no denying that Hitler improved the lives of many Germans during his time in power in a number of ways. Hitler’s first action was to focus on rebuilding the German economy. Through the implementation of various infrastructure projects and public works programs, jobs were created and unemployment dropped dramatically. In 1933, the unemployment rate was more than 30 percent and by 1938, it had fallen to just 1.5 percent. This restored a sense of pride and optimism to the German people and greatly improved the standard of living. Second, Hitler improved the quality of life in Germany by improving the healthcare system. He significantly increased the number of doctors, nursed and hospitals, resulting in better care for the German people. He also introduced weekly doctor’s visits to schools and extended health insurance coverage, giving more people access to healthcare. Third, Hitler wanted to make sure that the German people were well-provided for, so he implemented a plan of economic subsidies for those most in need. This included food subsidies for the elderly, those with families, and those who were unemployed. This greatly improved the quality of life for many Germans. Fourth, Hitler also recognized the importance of education, and worked to make it available to as many people as possible. He increased funding for higher education, and also introduced vocational schools to provide more employment opportunities for German citizens. He also made school mandatory for children, which resulted in a dramatic increase in literacy rates across the country. Lastly, Hitler drastically reduced crime in Germany through rigorous policing and harsh criminal laws. In contrast to Germany’s difficulties in controlling its crime rate prior to the Nazi regime, Hitler declared a “zero tolerance” policy against criminal activity and this resulted in a drastic reduction in crime rates. These are just some of the ways that Hitler improved the lives of many Germans during his time in power. Despite the atrocities and war crimes committed under his regime, there is no denying the fact that Hitler made life better for many people in Germany, although this does not excuse his horrific actions.
