What is Jesus? Jesus of Nazareth, son of God, is the central figure of Christianity He is the founder of the religion and is believed to be the messiah that was prophesied in the Hebrew Bible. Jesus was born around 4 BCE in Bethlehem, which is now part of the modern-day Palestinian Territories, to Mary and Joseph of Nazareth. During his life Jesus gained a large following and performed miracles, including turning water into wine, healing the sick, and raising Lazarus from the dead. After his death, Jesus rose again and ascended into heaven. The teachings and miracles that Jesus performed are still celebrated today by millions of people. Jesus' teachings and example show us how we should lead our lives, by loving and serving others, and teaching others of God’s love and mercy. Here are five of the best examples of Jesus's teachings. 1. The Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." This teaching can be found in Matthew 7:12 in the Bible and is often referred to as “The Golden Rule” because it encourages us to treat others with the same respect and kindness that we would like to be shown. 2. The Sermon on the Mount: This sermon included teachings such as “Blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9), “Love your enemies” (Matthew 5:44), “Do not judge lest you be judged” (Matthew 7:1) and more. These teachings serve as reminders of the importance of peace and understanding, even in the face of adversity. 3. The Beatitudes: Another set of teachings found in the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes are a collection of sayings from Jesus in which he explains how people of faith should live. For example, he encourages us to be merciful, pure in heart, and meek (Matthew 5:1-10). 4. “Seek first the kingdom of God”: Jesus frequently reminded his followers to put their faith in God before everything else. He taught that when we put God first, everything else in our lives will fall into place. 5. “Love one another”: One of Jesus’ most iconic teachings is to “love one another” (John 13:34). This teaching reminds us that it’s important to love and accept our neighbors, regardless of race, religion, or any other differences. These are just a few of the many examples of Jesus's teachings. Jesus's words and actions continue to inspire us today and serve as reminders to strive to be more like Him in our everyday lives.
