Liver Disease is any disorder of the liver that affects its normal functioning This includes a variety of conditions that can cause structural damage, chemical disturbances, and metabolic disturbances. Liver Disease can be caused by any number of conditions, including viruses, toxins, genetics, and autoimmune disorders. The effects of Liver Disease can range from mild and easily reversible, to life-threatening and fatal. The five best examples of Liver Disease are: 1. Hepatitis: This is an inflammation of the liver that can be caused by a variety of viruses, such as the hepatitis A, B, or C virus. It is often associated with fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and jaundice. If left untreated, it can cause cirrhosis, liver failure, and cancer of the liver. 2. Alcoholic Liver Disease: This is caused by long-term, excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages, which leads to liver damage. This can cause a number of symptoms, including jaundice, fatigue, abdominal pain, and itching. If left untreated, it can lead to cirrhosis and liver failure. 3. Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: This is caused by a build-up of fat in the liver, which can lead to inflammation and scarring of the organ. Symptoms of this condition can include fatigue, weight loss, and abdominal bloating. If left untreated, it can lead to cirrhosis and liver failure. 4. Cirrhosis: This is a progressive, irreversible damage to the liver caused by chronic inflammation and scarring. Symptoms of this condition can include jaundice, ascites, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, and mental confusion. If left untreated, it can lead to liver failure and death. 5. Biliary Atresia: This is a congenital birth defect in which the bile ducts between the liver and the gallbladder are blocked, preventing the bile from draining from the liver. Symptoms of this condition can include jaundice, dark urine, and pale stools. If left untreated, it can lead to cirrhosis, liver failure, and death. All of these Liver Diseases can be treated and even reversed, depending on the cause and severity. It is important to seek medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms, and to follow your doctor’s instructions in order to prevent the progression of the disease.
