Polo is an equestrian sport dating back centuries and originating in the Middle East It is a team sport which involves two teams of four players and two balls, typically played outdoors on a grass playing field. The objective of the game is to drive a wooden ball into the opposing team’s goal using a long-handled mallet. Each team is composed of four mounted players, and one player from each team rides in the same direction around a fixed field, separated by an imaginary line called the “pitch”. The Hurlingham Open takes place in London, England and is one of the most prestigious tournaments of the sport. The tournament is known for its match quality and features a host of top players from all over the world. 4. The British Open. This tournament is one of the most prestigious of the season, with the competition divided into three divisions. The British Open is held in Windsor and caters to the upper echelons of the sport. The tournament also showcases some of the most talented polo players in the world, with the event offering a variety of prizes and awards for the winners. 5. The United States Polo Association. The USPA is the governing body of polo in the United States and works to promote and develop the sport at all levels. The Association organizes numerous tournaments throughout the year, from the amateur level to the professional. The Association also sets rules and regulations, making sure that all players adhere to the guidelines. They also promote and encourage the growth of the sport, making sure that players and fans of the sport have the opportunity to enjoy it.
