of the President of the United States The President of the United States is a central figure in the country’s government and is the head of the executive branch As such, the president is typically responsible for ensuring that the laws of the United States are followed and upheld. Additionally, the president has the authority to make executive decisions, appoint Supreme Court justices, negotiate international treaties, and serve as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Five of the best examples of presidents of the United States include George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Barack Obama. George Washington, who was the first president of the United States, is best known for his leadership of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. He was also instrumental in the formation of the government of the United States, drafting the US Constitution, and leading the new nation. Following his presidential term, Washington was also the first President to leave office peacefully, setting a precedent for future American presidents. Abraham Lincoln is most commonly known for his role in leading the United States during the Civil War. He is also credited with helping to abolish slavery in the United States. After the war, Lincoln worked to heal the nation and promoted unity between the North and the South. His efforts to end the war and promote justice earned Lincoln the title of “The Great Emancipator.” Franklin Roosevelt served as the 32nd president of the United States and was in office during the Great Depression and World War II. He is remembered for his role in leading the country through tough economic times and the war, as well as introducing new economic policies with the “New Deal” to help Americans recover from the Depression. John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, is remembered for his three major accomplishments: inspiring Americans to strive for greatness, helping to end the Cold War, and introducing the space program that would eventually lead to a man landing on the moon. His presidency is also recognized for the passage of civil rights legislation. Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States, is remembered for a number of accomplishments, including the Affordable Care Act, a stimulus package to help the economy recover from the 2008 financial crisis, and the Paris climate agreement. He also helped to end the Iraq War and led the United States into diplomatic relations with Cuba after decades of a strained relationship.
