The Euro is the single currency of 19 out of the 27 European Union (EU) member countries, each of which is part of the Eurozone The Euro is the official currency of the Eurozone, the region’s monetary union. It replaced the pre-existing national currencies in 2002, and is the second largest reserve currency in the world, after the US Dollar.
The Euro was created as a result of the Maastricht Treaty in 1992, which set out the economic and monetary union that the Eurozone countries would operate under.
